The Bible is a Unified Volume
I’ll flesh this article out at some point in the future – for now, wanted to capture some interesting points that were made in todays sermon.
Mathew, written by converted tax collector Levi, presents JESUS as the fulfillment of the OT scriptures. It is carefully constructed to show the Jewish audience things that should be familiar to them. For example, when Jesus is tempted – how long was it? Where was it? It was for 40 days – and it was in the wilderness. Does that spark something familiar? It should – the children of Israel wondered in the wilderness for 40 years.
Mt chapter 2: “I have called my son out of Egypt”. (Israel was God’s chosen people – entered into a relationship with God as a “son”. Jesus also, fled to Egypt so that scripture would be fulfilled.)
Mt 5,6,7 => The great sermon on “the mountain”. This also has a repeated familiarity with the giving of the Law by God to Moses on Mt Sinai.
Types are rich, repeated and real.
-stay tuned !
